Wittering

WitteringThe unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering has been a favourite destination for a family day out for generations. The high water quality and excellent facilities have made it one of the premier Blue Flag beaches in the country. So to avoid the crowds it's best to visit out of season - although windsurfers but more especially boat traffic can make for difficult and frustrating fishing. This is particularly true at East Head, the sand dune spit situated at the eastern side of the entrance to Chichester Harbour, where the water has some depth. Bass are a popular target both for bait casting and saltwater fly anglers. Golden grey mullet, mackerel and black bream can also be here in numbers during the summer months

Type of ground

The shallow shingle beach gives onto to sand/shell. Wading in the shallows and casting a fly at the school bass is a great way to spend a summer's day.

Species

Bass, Black Bream, Mackerel, Golden Grey Mullet.
