Squid

A SQUID FOR ALL SEASONS !

I try to increase the ‘appeal zone’ by  adding to a bait. You can do what you like …this is the addition of lug-scent to a smallish squid.

With imagination, you can do all sorts!

For boat or beach, if I want to make a bait more appealing, thread the bottom hook of a Pennel from the ‘pointy end’ of a squid (‘skinned and finned’) through the ‘mantle’ to the head.

It’s easy when you’ve done it before!

Thread the point of terminal hook through the point of the mantle. Then grip the flesh and tease the hook bend to the head.

Pull through 2 or 3 inches.

Pull through 2 or 3 inches.

Thread on 2 or 3 lug/rag. Now pull on the main line and coax the worms inside the squid ‘mantle’.

Carefully slide the top Pennel hook down over the worms; give it a twist and insert through the tail twice.

Bind with fine elastic and clip down or use a D-Vice to encase and cast. Pierce the lug before casting to maximise ‘scent trail’.

Well worth a try from a boat or shore for cod, bass and rays.
