Mackerel fishing
About
Mackerel are easily identified by the black wavy markings on the back over a background of brilliant blue or green, shading to a silver belly. Mackerel swim in huge shoals and during the summer months will come in close to the shore to chase whitebait and sandeels.
Season
Usually May to October.
Methods
Spinning with small shiny artificial lures. Float fishing. Mackerel feathers. Fly fishing.
Baits
Small strips of mackerel or a whole sandeel.
