Gar fishing
About
The Garfish (belone belone) is bluish green on the back shading to silver on the body. It has a very flexible, long eel like body and a distinctive bird like bill. It is a fish of the upper layers and in the summer months it is not unusual to see large numbers harrying brit at the surface. It is reputedly a good fish for the table but its internal colour scheme of bright green bones puts a lot of people off.
Season
Late spring to early autumn.
Methods
Spinning with small shiny artificial lures. Float fishing.
Baits
Small strips of mackerel or garfish.
