Conger fishing

Along with Tope and Smoothhound, the Conger is the biggest fish the shore angler can set out to catch along the south coast. It has powerful jaws and numerous teeth which are capable of inflicting a nasty injury to the unwary. The colouration is a soot brown or purplish brown shading to greyish white underneath. The conger likes piers, jetties and rocks in deep water estuaries and breakwaters, harbour walls and rocks of the open shore.

From late spring to early winter.

Running leger or paternoster.

Squid, mackerel, herring, whole pout, wrasse.
